A Sartell High School graduate recently broke a 22-year-old high-jump record at the University of Minnesota, Morris.
Shortly after that feat, Ryan DeRoeck was named Upper Midwest Athletic Conference men’s track-and-field Athlete of the Week. DeRoeck, a 2009 graduate of Sartell High School, cleared the high jump at 6 feet, 4 inches, besting the previous record of 6 feet, 2 inches set by Cougar
Eric Lent in the 1990 season.
DeRoeck now holds the top jump in the UMAC. He was also the UMAC outdoor high-jump champion last season, as well as last season’s runner-up at the UMAC indoor championships.
Last year DeRoeck was named outdoor all-UMAC athlete and runner up in the 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles.
