On Feb. 20, at 3:45 p.m., the Stearns County Sheriff’s 911 Dispatch Center received a call of a snowmobile crash off CR 2, north of the city of St. Stephen in Brockway Township. Responding to the crash was St. Stephen Rescue, Mayo Ambulance and the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a Stearns County Sheriff’s Office report, Darren James Trousil, 42, Sartell, had been driving his 2021 Ski-Doo snowmobile north bound in the ditch of CR 2. He went over a driveway and became airborne. When the snowmobile landed, he lost control of the machine, and it rolled several times throwing him from it. Trousil’s helmet came off, and he sustained injuries due to the crash.
He was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital by ambulance.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, along with speed. The incident remains under investigation.
