Sabre Speaks, a new podcast hosted by Tom Lee, the interim superintendent for the Sartell-St. Stephen school district, takes a deep dive into district happenings.
The podcast is designed to feel like an informative chat among friends with Lee hosting a new guest each episode. Guests are school employees, district subject-matter experts and students. Each podcast is about 20 minutes long and two new episodes are released per month.
To date, six episodes have been produced on topics that included Veterans Day, core-knowledge language arts (two episodes), students with grit, the Riverview Intermediate School indoor air-quality project and the district’s director of learning and teaching.
According to Lee, he started the Sabre Speaks podcast to tell the district’s story and to address misinformation. While Lee does not have prior podcast experience, he is a self-proclaimed avid talker, singer, performer and entertainer who thrives in front of a microphone. He hopes to engage listeners by finding guests who are enthusiastic storytellers. The target audience is primarily parents who have students in the Sartell-St. Stephen School District. However, Lee thinks the podcast might also spark an interest in area residents because it can help them understand how their tax dollars are being spent.
In future episodes, Lee plans to highlight the Sartell High School’s Career and Technical Education department, discuss the controversy surrounding the ninth-grade English curriculum, address school finances and inform listeners about the Benton-Stearns Educational District program.
