I write this letter to enthusiastically support Aric Putnam for re-election as state senator! I first met Aric as he came through my neighborhood meeting people during his run for the House in 2016, a surprising meeting because in more than 10 years at my current address I’d never met anyone running for, or in, office. In all those years we’ve never had any Republican candidates walk through this neighborhood to meet the people they say they want to represent. I wonder why?
Aric showed up again in 2018. This time I was roofing my house with some friends. Aric immediately volunteered to pitch in and give us a hand, even though, as he said, “You probably don’t want me on the roof!” That’s the kind of person Aric is, both here and as a senator. Seeing areas that need help, he immediately jumps in to do what he can. In his first term, he got bills passed even though his party is in the minority in the Senate, something that rarely happens. His first bill helped students in college deal with food insecurity, making sure that going hungry doesn’t happen. Aric did it by working with people on both sides of the aisle, and as a result students, who are our future, can concentrate on studying. Well done Senator!
Even though his first term was only two years, in that time Sen. Putnam has helped his constituents more than his opponent has in almost 10 years in the House, where her most memorable moment was posting on Facebook that she wasn’t feeling too “worky” and just wanted to get to the cabin. This election, both candidates can get their wish, Sen. Putnam can go back to St. Paul to help us and his opponent can go to the cabin!
