Dr. David Smith of Sartell has been chosen to become the board chair for Anna Marie’s Alliance, the St. Cloud-based organization that protects women and children against domestic violence.
Smith will take over the job previously held by Michelle Henderson. Also joining the board as vice chair is Pam Bjerke who has served as a board member at large. Outgoing board members Sonja Gidlow and Lisa Marvin were honored recently for their dedicated service for the past few years.
Smith is the owner and physician at Sartell Pediatrics in Sartell, which he opened for business in 2012.
“As a pediatrician,” Smith said, “I witness firsthand the impact domestic violence has on families and children. I am honored to serve as the board chair of Anna Marie’s Alliance, where I can leverage my professional expertise to advocate for the safety and well-being of the families we serve. Together, we can create a future where every family has the support and resources they need to thrive.”
Smith is a graduate of Wright State Medical School in Dayton, Ohio and completed his residency at Nationwide Columbus Children’s Hospital in 2005. He and his wife, Jill, have two children and have lived in Sartell for 15 years. Jill is a current member of the Sartell City Council.
Anna Marie’s Alliance provides women and their children who are victims of domestic abuse a safe place to stay, along with the day-to-day living resources they need. The Alliance’s mission is to provide education, intervention and advocacy, using a holistic approach and an anti-oppression focus.
