The St. Joseph Saints baseball team started off strong May 20 against the Cold Spring Springers but in the end couldn’t keep the momentum to maintain the lead.
The Saints lost to the Springers 3-12 at Springer Park in Cold Spring. It was the team’s first loss of the season after winning three of their first four games and tying with the St. Wendel Saints earlier this month.
The Springers didn’t score until the third inning but two innings later is when they clinched the lead with five home runs and then rode it to victory. The Saints scored their second and third runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
After a game lasting just over two hours, here are final numbers for the teams: the Saints had three runs, eight hits; the Springers finished with 12 runs and 15 hits.
The Saints will face the Clear Lake Lakers at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 26 at Schneider Field in St. Joseph.
