The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center has received multiple calls from residents who received a phone call from a someone claiming to be sergeant with the Stearns County Sheriff’s Department.
The bogus caller requests medical information, legal documents or using intimidation about past-due unpaid fines. Those calls are fraudulent and are aimed to elicit personal information or money. Those who received such calls and were leery of them called the sheriff’s office immediately, which was the right thing to do. The sheriff’s office verified that such calls are, in fact, scammers up to no good.
If you receive a call like the ones described and are unsure if the conversation is authentic or not, so not give any personal information. Hang up and then contact the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office at 320-251-4240. The sheriff’s office cautions people never to give out any personal/financial information on the telephone or via email notifications.
