Thomas Edison Hicks, 79, of Minneapolis
Feb. 18, 1944-Oct. 11, 2023
Minneapolis
Thomas Edison Hicks, 79, of Minneapolis died peacefully Oct. 11.
A maudlin, sad funeral would not be Hick’s style, so instead his family plans to throw a “FUN”-eral in his honor. Please join us for this event from 2-6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18 at 1400 Laurel Ave., Minneapolis.
An intrepid entrepreneur, Hicks had a wide variety of interests and skills. He was an inventor, educator, woodworker, percussionist (in the 5th Army Band!), dairy goat farmer, recording artist and voice-over actor, and a Minnesota State Fair award-winning bread baker. His energy was big, creative and irreverent, and he was an eternal opTOMist. The self-proclaimed “World’s Second-Best Santa” also managed to perform a front handspring on his 50th birthday.
Survivors include the following: his children, Caleb (Pankuri Goraksha-Hicks) Hicks, Megan (Wobo) Bekwelem, Rachel Hicks, Whitney (Marlon) Heimerl; their mother, Claire Paulene (aka Carol Hicks); grandchildren, Nyasa, Arlo, Malakhi, Zemira, Fiora; brother Jim (Celeste) Hicks; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Crandall and Marjorie; sister, Marlene Melchert.
Memorial gifts may be made in Hick’s honor to National Public Radio.
