Thomas Madsen, 53, of St. Joseph died unexpectedly on June 7, 2022.

Madsen was born on Nov. 13, 1968 to Howard and Shirley Madsen in Amery, Wis. He grew up in the Polk County Wisconsin area and graduated from St. Croix Falls High School in 1986. After high school, he joined the military and moved to the West Coast where he was stationed in California. He married Cheryl Cross of St. Croix Falls in December of 1989, where they were married for 12 years. They had one daughter, Leah Nicole, who took after her father as a lover of books, music and tattoos. Madsen had a passion for cooking, reading, cars, guitars, music, history and spending time with his friends.

Madsen’s daughter Leah and his mother Shirley ask that individuals reading this obituary have conversations with their loved ones on the access to adequate mental health and addiction recovery resources and to strive for accessible healthcare for all individuals no matter their age, background, ability, status or income. 

Survivors include his mother Shirley and her partner Will; his daughter, Leah; his sister, Julie and her husband Darren; his nephew and nieces Jeff, Katie and Savanna; along with many other relatives. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Madsen. 

Burial plans and final resting place are still being determined and organized.
