St. Francis Xavier Elementary School is gearing up for a May 7 musical-fundraising night dubbed “SFX Rocks” with guest band “Maiden Dixie.”
Ticket sales will start April 1. Proceeds will be used for playground and recess equipment, said Heide Schloe, SFX principal. Any leftover funds will be put into the school’s general fund.
SFX Rocks will take place from 6-11 p.m. Saturday, May 7. At this point, it has not yet been decided whether the event will take place indoors or outdoors, Schloe noted. Social hour is from 6-7 p.m. The band begins to play at 7 p.m.
One of the band’s members, Alex Maiers, happens to be the son of the school’s main cook, Amy Maiers. Alex is a singer and guitarist for Maiden Dixie, a country-rock band based in Minneapolis.
The event, which includes food and beverages, is for adults ages 21 and over. There will be a silent auction, gift baskets and other features.
SFX’s elementary school is for students pre-school through sixth grade. There are currently 275 children enrolled in the school.
Pre-event tickets are $10 per person less if purchased before April 29. To order tickets, check “SFX Rocks” on the parish website in early April. The site is stfrancissartell.org.

Maiden Dixie singer and guitarist Alex Maiers, of St. Paul, helps his mother, Amy Maiers, of St. Cloud, March 10 in the St. Francis Xavier School kitchen.

Maiden Dixie singer and guitarist Alex Maiers of St. Paul hands Elise Omann, 9, of Sartell, an oreo to eat with her lunch March 10. Oreos were given to the St. Francis Xavier School children to celebrate the school’s “Black and White Day” and the ending of “I Love to Read Month.” A favorite book character was a black-and-white skunk.
