Two men are competing for two spots on the St. Stephen City Council this election season. Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Trobec wants to continue to serve city
Stephen J. Trobec, an incumbent St. Stephen City Council member, decided to file for re-election because he was asked to do so by past city leaders and by other people in the city.
Trobec will be on the Nov. 5 general election ballot along with fellow council member Thomas Vouk, who is also an incumbent member. Those are the only two running for two open council seats.
A life-long St. Stephen resident, Trobec works as a copper etcher for St. Cloud Engraving. He is a graduate of St. Cloud Technical & Community College and also a graduate of St. John’s University.
He also serves on the St. Stephen Fire Department.
“I wish to continue to serve the City of St. Stephen as a council person because I have a strong sense of responsibility to contribute to the community that I grew up in,” Trobec stated in a Newsleaders questionnaire.
Vouk aims to use experiences to help city
Thomas Vouk, who has served on the St. Stephen City Council for 20 years, decided to file for re-election because he believes he can still be of service to his small town.
Vouk and fellow city-council member Stephen Trobec, both incumbents, will be on the Nov. 5 ballot. Those are the only two running for two open council seats.
Vouk, a St. Cloud Technical & Community College graduate, is an auto technician who has lived all of his life in St. Stephen. He and his wife, Nancy, have been married for 32 years and have two grown children, both married.
When asked what skills and talents he has that could help him be a strong council member, he stated this:
“I may not be as educated as others, but I have a lot of history here,” he said. “I have experience working with people and problem-solving.”
What is St. Stephen’s biggest strength?
“The city is blessed with very good people,” he said. “It is amazing how our community comes together to participate in city functions.”
High on Vouk’s list of things he would like to get done if elected to another term are roads.
“Our roads are going to be a priority,” he said.
