Children will have more options for playground equipment at Northland Park after improvements are completed. A bridge and additional slides are among the upgrades to the neighborhood park.
Before winter sets in, families will have a chance to test out the new playground equipment as upgrades near completion. The St. Joseph Park Board voted earlier this year to complete the final phase of improvements to the neighborhood park. Just before cooler temperatures arrived, members of the St. Joseph Public Works department were extending a bridge from an existing slide and adding two more slides for enjoyment. Installation should be completed by the end of the month, weather permitting.
“I’m surprised at how fast the work got started,” Park Board Chairman John Anderson said.
Park board members voted to budget about $25,000 for improvements to the park. While this money was initially going to be allocated this year for potential upgrades to Cloverdale Park, board members decided to use that $25,000 to complete the third phase of planned improvements to Northland Park and focus on Cloverdale Park in 2013.
Additional planned improvements to Northland Park include a trail extension to the playground area and the addition of benches. Northland Park is located off of Northland Drive in the northern half of the city.
