A 46-year-old St. Joseph man is in St. Cloud Hospital after threatening to harm himself Sept. 28.
The St. Joseph Police Department was called to the 800 block of Dale Street E. in response to a suicidal man. The man threatened to harm himself if officers approached the home, St. Joseph Police Chief Pete Jansky said.
Officers set up surveillance on the residence and were on scene from 6:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Authorities made a reverse 9-1-1 call telling neighbors to stay in their homes. With the assistance of family and friends officers were able to get the man to come out of his residence, he said.
“We never felt at any time that anyone was in danger,” Jansky said.
Jansky said the department was called to the same residence about one week prior to the incident on Sept. 28 for a similar call. The man was taken to the St. Cloud Hospital by Gold Cross Ambulance for evaluation.
The St. Joseph Police Department was assisted by the Waite Park, Sartell and Avon police departments, the Stearns County Sheriff’s Department and members of the area CERT Team.
