Residents interested in running for local office have just a few days until they can file. The filing period for the mayoral and city council races opens Tuesday, July 31 and ends at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14.
In addition to the two-year mayoral post, there are two city council seats up for election. The seats are held by Renee Symanietz and Bob Loso.
St. Joseph City Administrator Judy Weyrens said she has not heard from interested parties about running but says that usually changes once the filing period opens.
St. Joseph Mayor Rick Schultz was elected in the November 2010 election. Symanietz has served on the St. Joseph City Council since 2004 and was re-elected in 2008. Loso served on the city council from 1990 to 2002. He took a break, was also re-elected in 2008, and ran for mayor in 2010.
Applications are at St. Joseph City Hall. The filing fee is $2. Questions about the election process can be directed to city hall at 320-363-7201.
