Tuesday (Aug. 14) marks the last day for mayor and city council hopefuls to file for local office. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m.
There are three seats up for election in the city of St. Joseph — the two-year mayoral post and two four-year council positions. The council seats are held by Renee Symanietz and Bob Loso. Rick Schultz serves as mayor.
To date, no one has filed for the office of mayor and two have filed for the council positions. Symanietz filed to retain her council seat Aug. 2 and newcomer Troy Goracke filed July 31 to serve on the St. Joseph City Council.
Schultz was elected in the November 2010 election. Symanietz has served on the St. Joseph City Council since 2004 and was re-elected in 2008. Loso served on the city council from 1990 to 2002. He took a break, was also re-elected in 2008 and ran for mayor in 2010.
Applications are at St. Joseph City Hall. The filing fee is $2. Questions about the election process can be directed to city hall at 320-363-7201. Election Day is Nov. 6.
