All Saints Academy kicked of its new school year Tuesday, Aug. 28.
The first day of school is about getting used to the idea of being back in school and relearning the rules. Karl Terhaar, principal of All Saints Academy, said he thought the students were happy to be back. Many Catholic schools open early he said and by this time of year, children are starting to gear up for the return.
“Usually by mid-August most activities have started and they are ready to come back,” Terhaar said. “The kids come in with their new backpacks and shoes and are ready.”
While the day-to-day routine won’t change much, students and staff will be working around construction. Some maintenance work is being done on the church and there are plans to add a fellowship hall. What does this mean for students? When work begins, they will have recess on a grassy lot just west of the building, Terhaar said. They’re looking forward to playing on the grass, staff said. The Sisters of the Order of St. Benedict approved the use of this space during the expansion project.
