Many of Brittany Allyn’s friends and fans in her hometown of St. Stephen are voting for her as a candidate for “Mrs. Holiday” honors at “Taste of Home” magazine.
Allyn is best known as one of the lead singers for country great George Jones on his traveling shows. She has also produced solo CDs that have earned raves from critics and fans.
However, many people familiar with her music do not know that music is not her only passion. Cooking is another. Since 2010, Allyn has been a regional field editor for Taste of Home, which is the nation’s most widely distributed food magazine. Allyn has had many of her recipes and food-related stories published in Taste of Home. In addition, she has her own self-produced web series entitled “Savor the Flavors” in which she shares her dining experiences in restaurants across the United States and then, via video, shares her cooking of recipes in her own kitchen, based on the foods she sampled at restaurants.
Allyn fans can also see her and vote for her on a Taste of Home Facebook page. So far, Allyn’s video pitch for being “Mrs. Holiday” is in the lead, outdistancing other contenders by 1,500 votes. Fans have until Sept. 7 to cast votes at facebook.com/TasteofHome. The videos with the most votes will be reviewed by a panel of judges from Taste of Home magazine and Reader’s Digest.
“Mrs. Holiday” will represent Taste of Home as a spokesperson and inspire subscribing readers with new recipes, cooking methods and the downhome lore of cuisine.
Brittany (Trobec) Allyn moved to Nashville, Tenn. from St. Stephen years ago where she established herself as a singer-songwriter and then became a backup singer for many of country’s greatest singers, such as Willie Nelson, Toby Keith and George Jones, as well as rock legends like Steven Tyler of Arrowsmith. As a girl growing up in St. Stephen, she sang in the church choir and learned many songs from her grandparents’ extensive collections of classic country music.
Readers can vote for Allyn as “Mrs. Holiday” at facebook.com/Taste of Home. They can also learn more about Allyn by checking out the following websites: www.SavortheFlavors.tv or www.BrittanyAllyn.com.
