“What do you think of the Verso paper mill closing forever?”
(This photo poll was conducted Aug. 6 by Newsleader reporter Amber Roerick in various places throughout the greater St. Cloud area.
1.
Beth Althaus
St. Cloud

“It’s really sad the mill is closing. The loss of jobs is very bad and I really do feel for those people who will lose their jobs because of it. Many people have had the experience of losing a job. And not only that, but it is a huge part of the city’s history and it has been there for so long, and now it will be gone.”

2.
Jennifer Helmin
Cold Spring
“It is really sad they won’t be reopening the paper mill. I feel it could really hurt the economy.”

3.
April Kortlever
St. Cloud
“I didn’t really know much about the paper mill, and I just heard on the radio it was not going to reopen. That’s really sad because a lot of people will lose their jobs.”

4.
Megan Kortlever
St. Cloud
“It really isn’t helpful for the economy for the paper mill to close down, but then again there is the point of view from the company’s stance because safety and business are also important to consider. Injuries can be an issue, and safety for companies like that is very important.”

5.
Dean Beckman
Swanville (works in St. Cloud)
“My first worry would be jobs. Another would be the paper mill employs many people and what with people using less paper because of computers, those people are out of work, and that is a lot of people earning less and even spending less in the city.”
