I’m writing in dismay at the results (or lack thereof) from our last few school board meetings. The board members should be dedicating their personal time and talents to fulfill their vow to accurately represent our community and children, specifically those in our public schools.
It seems to be our current board is, at best, experiencing an “analysis paralysis” – at worst, a stubborn refusal to consider multiple experts and unavoidable facts.
I consider myself fiscally conservative and, I’ll admit, the price tag to upgrade the HVAC at Riverview did produce a lot of questions initially. I do feel, however, that there is no way around this. Multiple experts who have experience and degrees agree the air quality at Riverview needs to change. We are fortunate to be able to afford this as a district and we have all the facts. My question is, why aren’t we moving forward?
My two children sit in that building every day, sweating along with their peers. They breathe in that air every single day. They learn from teachers who arrive before they do and stay long into the afternoon and evening, enduring their environment in order to do their jobs properly. This. is. not. healthy.
The cost to remedy this is just going to go up. I’m pleading with the members of our school board to stop looking for conspiracies where there are only facts. Please stop disagreeing with everything that comes across your desks solely because it came from someone outside of your “group think” position. Please start considering our children, their health and what’s best for our community.
