Sartell-St. Stephen school board fails to approve budget cuts

A three-to-three vote at a special Sartell-St. Stephen school board meeting April 8 means a plan to deal with a $1.3 million budget shortage failed to be approved.

The administration had proposed a list of cuts to programs and staff, as well as revenue increases.

The cuts are necessary after voters defeated last November an operating levy that would have raised $1.8 million.

Board members Jason Nies, Pam Raden and Jeremy Snoberger voted to approve the plan and Amanda Byrd, Lesa Kramer and Patrick Marushin opposed it.

The board will meet in a work session at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at the District Service Center, 212 Third Ave. N. The next regular school board meeting is 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 15, at the St. Stephen City Hall.
