A train collided with an unoccupied and apparently stolen U-Haul truck early Sarturday near the old mill property in Sartell.
Officers and first responders arrived to find the front corner of the truck damaged. The train operator reported that the truck had been parked on the tracks, according to Sartell police.
About 15 minutes prior to the 7:10 a.m. collision, another train passed and reported no vehicle on the tracks.
Officers, firefighters and a Stearns County Sheriff’s Office drone searched the area for any truck occupants but nobody was found.
The U-Haul had been rented in St. Cloud and officers contacted the renter. Sartell police described the renter as “uncooperative” and he told officers it had been parked on the street in St. Cloud when it was stolen.
As of Monday morning, no stolen property report has been filed.
