Forum focuses on more passenger train service

Proponents of expanding passenger train service in Central Minnesota have scheduled a forum for Wednesday, Sept. 26.

All Aboard Minnesota supports more daily train service than the one Amtrak train currently connecting St. Cloud, the Twin Cities and Chicago.

The forum is set for 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the St. Cloud Public Library, 1300 St. Germain St.

Topics include a proposal for a second train between the Twin Cities and Chicago with a possible extension through St. Cloud, economic and mobility benefits, and how to support the plan.

All Aboard Minnesota argues that public investment and subsidies for road and air transportation have created a transportation system which is now unbalanced and unsustainable.

The group cites successes of more trains running between Chicago and St. Louis and plans to rebuild the rails between Chicago and Detroit to accommodate 110 mph service.
