A man found dead in an east Sartell apartment complex during a Jan. 19 fire call died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to a Sartell Police Department report released Jan. 27.
A 4-month-old baby in that apartment was also deceased, and her death is also being investigated as a homicide, although the results of more tests are pending.
The man’s name is Caleb Allen Clark, 24; the baby’s name is Hazel Kaloni Clark. The two moved to Sartell recently from Grand Forks, N.D., the police report stated.
On Jan. 19, investigators were called to the scene of an apartment fire at 301 11th Ave. E. in Sartell. Sartell firefighters arrived after receiving a fire call, apparently from an apartment neighbor. The firefighters, upon entering the apartment, to put out the fire, found the two bodies and notified investigators. The State Fire Marshal determined the fire had been intentionally set within Clark’s apartment. Most of the damage was contained to that unit.
Surrounding neighbors were evacuated from their apartments until it was determined there was no further danger.
The incident remains under investigation, but investigators believe there is no threat to the public.
