On Oct. 29, volunteers helped stuff, wrap and box packages that will benefit children in developing countries this holiday season.
On Oct. 29, a group of 22 individuals met at Abounding Joy Lutheran Church to make a difference at Christmas for children in developing countries. The program was created by Franklin Graham son of the Rev. Billy Graham. With the help of a $250 grant from Thrivent Financial for toys, soap and washcloths, fuzzy animals, marbles, trucks and cards, volunteers were able to fill 300 specially decorated shoe boxes under the leadership of Patsy Magelssen, who has been creating children’s clothing, purses and items for the program for 18 years. Church members brought in items and toys. After filling the boxes, they are then then taken to and collected at Calvary Community and Westwood churches and sent to warehouses in Minneapolis where they are all inspected and sealed before shipment around the world to scenes of disaster and areas of poverty. It’s easy to imagine the joy of children when they open the boxes that were packed just for them. It makes all the hours spent collecting and sewing all worthwhile.
