Aug. 8
11:52 p.m. Curfew violation. Central Park Boulevard. Officers were conducting a check at Pinecone Central Park when they noticed two boys playing basketball. The boys were told they were out past curfew and that the park was closed. The officer brought both boys home and gave them a verbal warning regarding the curfew violation.
Aug. 9
2:54 p.m. Fraud. Lawrence Circle. Officers responded to a fraud complaint. The victim said they were having computer issues and received a message from what appeared to be from Microsoft. The victim was then told their name was associated with debts on two websites. The victim was then asked about their banking information to clear the debt. The victim was told a member from their bank would be in touch. The victim stated they had received another call from someone who they believed represented their bank and was told to buy $5,000 worth of gift cards. The victim followed the instructions and provided the card numbers. The victim was then told to purchase more gift cards, at which point the victim hung up the phone and realized they were being scammed. The victim was advised to cancel all credit and debit cards and to put an alert on their account.
Aug. 10
5:45 p.m. Crash. 207 CR 120. Police were called to a two-vehicle crash in the roundabout near the area. Officers say one vehicle was attempting to exit the roundabout, as another vehicle was entering, causing the two vehicles to collide. No one was hurt. The driver and passenger of the vehicle entering the roundabout were cited for not having child safety restraints for their passengers.
Aug. 11
9:02 a.m. Hazard. Fifth Street N. Officers were dispatched to a report of a power pole on fire. Officers arrived to find the fire was out, but several burnt pieces had fallen to the ground. The incident had caused a power outage which affected the nearby traffic light. Officers remained on scene to help with traffic control while Xcel Energy repaired the power pole.
Aug. 12
7:07 p.m. Theft. Pinecone Road. Officers responded to a theft complaint. The victim stated they were at Mulligans when they noticed the passenger side window had been smashed out. Patrons at the venue recalled hearing glass break and not long after seeing a red Jeep Grand Cherokee leave the parking lot. The victim reported a Michael Kors purse had been taken from the vehicle. Sartell officers responded to multiple thefts from vehicle complaints throughout the weekend.
Aug. 13
3:01 a.m. Noise complaint. 2 ½ Street N. Officers were dispatched to a noise complaint. The caller reported loud music, voices from a pool party. Officers could hear the noise from several houses away. Officers spoke with the homeowner who stated they would bring everyone inside and close the windows and doors. The homeowner was reminded about the city’s noise ordinance and issued a verbal warning.
Aug. 14
1 p.m. Theft. Fifth Avenue E. The victim reported an unknown person had taken some items they had recently ordered. The victim says the package arrived Friday afternoon and when they returned home Saturday, they saw the box was still on their doorstep but the items inside were taken. The total amount of the items taken was over $100.
Aug. 15
10:51 p.m. Mailbox vandalism. Fourth Street N. Officers responded to a report of an explosion and a mailbox on fire. The homeowner stated he heard a loud explosion, looked out on the road, and saw his mailbox in pieces and a small fire at the base of the mailbox post. Officers discovered some cardboard and paper pieces consistent with firecrackers in the roadway. The mailbox was destroyed, and there are no suspects at this time.
Aug. 16
4:10 p.m. Crash. CR 120/Leander Road. Officers responded to a crash at the roundabout. Officers say a motorcyclist was in the roundabout heading north when another vehicle heading west entered the roundabout. The driver of the motorcycle then laid his bike down to avoid hitting the other vehicle. The motorcyclist suffered an injury to his head and arm.
Aug. 17
5:55 p.m. Problem with juvenile. Second Street S. Police were called to a nearby business for juveniles throwing rocks at an adjacent building. Officers spoke with the two juveniles who were leaving the scene on their bikes along Pinecone Road. Officers told them why they were called, and the kids stated they were not throwing rocks, but instead candy to see how far they could throw it. Officers stated they did find some candy on the ground in the area, matching the boys’ story. Officers asked the boys to refrain from further activity like this.
Aug. 18
8:17 p.m. Animal complaint. Seventh Street N. Officers were dispatched to a report of a dog bite. The victim stated they were walking their dog, when another dog ran across the street and attacked her dog. The dog had some scratches but no puncture wounds. The complainant said they were concerned the dog may bite again. Officers spoke with the biting dog’s owner, who confirmed their dog had attacked another dog. The owner stated the dog was terminally ill and would be put to sleep in the coming weeks. Officers relayed their findings to the complainant and advised her to call back with any other questions.
Aug. 19
10:52 a.m. Shoplifting. 21 CR 120. Officers responded to a shoplifting complaint. Staff reported a woman was under-ringing items. Officers spoke with the woman, who stated she was using the handheld scanner and must have made a mistake in scanning all the items. The woman offered to pay for the remaining items which had not been scanned. Staff requested the woman be cited for theft. The case is being forwarded to the city attorney’s office for review.
Aug. 20
2:25 p.m. Suspicious vehicle. River Oaks Crossing. Officers responded to a suspicious vehicle call. Officers found an unoccupied vehicle parked in front of a construction site for a new business. Officers walked to the building and found a man and woman walking near the ditch area. The woman told the officer they were looking for agates. The officer advised them they did not have permission from the property owners to be there and were asked to leave.
Aug. 21
9 a.m. Citizen contact. 26 Street Loop N. Our department was asked to send an officer to a daycare center to talk to the kids about safety. The students learned about the responsibilities of a police officer as well as tour a squad car.
