Job resumes are now being accepted by the City of St. Joseph to fill an upcoming vacancy on the St. Joseph City Council – a council member to replace Adam Scepaniak’s seat once he officially becomes mayor in early January.
Resumes can be dropped off at the St. Joseph Government Center.
Mayor-elect Adam Scepaniak, incumbent council member as of now, will take the oath of office in during January at which time, of course, he will no longer be a council member.
The new council in January will be comprised of the following members:
Mayor-elect Adam Scepaniak (His council term was not up but he decided to file for the mayoral position and won. That is why someone is needed to take that seat. Former Mayor Rick Schultz had decided not to run again).
Kelly Beniek. (She was re-elected Nov. 5.)
Kevin Kluesner. (He was not up for re-election Nov. 5).
Adam Schnettler. (He is a newcomer who was elected Nov. 5 to take the seat vacated by Robert Loso. Loso was up for re-election but decided to compete for the mayoral position and lost to Scepaniak, as did candidate Jon Hazen).
New member. (For the fifth position on the council, a new member will be appointed in early January to replace Scepaniak’s seat.)
Scepaniak told the Newsleader he had spoken with the city’s attorney, who said the proper protocol would be to call for applications/resumes from any St. Joseph residents who would be interested in serving on the council. Then, right after Scepaniak takes the oath of office in the first week of January, those who submitted their job resumes can be interviewed by the mayor and council.
After the interview process is completed, at the second council meeting of the month (in the third week of January), a qualified candidate will be proposed to be up for a vote by the council.
The selection process follows all of the state’s laws and procedures on how to fill a vacancy in a situation as outlined above.
