On Feb. 11 at approximately 6 p.m., the St. Joseph Police Department received the call of a single-vehicle accident described as being near the “Old Park and Ride” on CR 2 near Interstate 94 in St. Joseph. St. Joseph officers responded and located the crash further south on CR 2 near 280th Street in St. Joseph Township. Stearns County Sheriff’s Office deputies were also dispatched.
At the scene, officers and deputies located a single vehicle that had gone off the roadway and came to a stop after striking a power pole. Officers identified the driver of the vehicle as Bette Jo Olson, 67, of St. Cloud. Olson said she was traveling northbound on CR 2 when she suffered a medical event. Olson remembered leaving the roadway and entering the ditch. Olson said she attempted to steer away from the utility pole but struck it with the corner of her vehicle. The pole sheared off when Olson’s vehicle struck it. She was driving a 2009 Toyota RAV4 and was not injured in the crash.
Stearns Electric Association was called to remove the power pole from the vehicle.
Also assisting at the scene was the St. Joseph Police Department.
