I just recently finished reading “The Message” by Ta-Nahisi Coates. It struck me deeply. It is a recounting of three journeys: first to Dakar in Africa, then to Columbia, South Carolina and the last to Palestine. Though each of them were thought-provoking and a way of seeing through another’s eyes, it was the last that was most disturbing to me, perhaps because of current events.
Though I have long held a strong belief that Israeli actions in the Middle East amount to genocide, it was the further depiction of current life in Israel for the population, Jewish and Arab, that struck me. It’s apparent the Zionist system of government there amounts to Apartheid. If the world’s democracies would not tolerate that system in South Africa, why are they tolerating it in Israel?
I believe it’s time for NATO nations to set the same restrictions on interactions with Israel as they did with South Africa. It’s time to stop supplying aid and arms in support of the vengeful, murderous actions of the Netanyahu government.
