Sartell Police Chief Jim Hughes will share his dramatic recap of one of Sartell’s darkest days when he meets with senior citizens at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11 at Sartell City Hall.
Hughes was one of the key players in the wake of the tragic Verso paper mill explosion and fire on May 28, which claimed one life and injured four others.
Hughes’ presentation is slated for the Sartell Senior Connection’s “Second Tuesday” meeting, a get-together that takes place on the second Tuesday of each month during which seniors hear speakers on a variety of topics, with plenty of time for questions and answers.
Hughes will play recordings of the many 911 calls the police department received immediately following the explosion, and he will give details about the massive and intricately coordinated efforts among so many people and agencies working together after the catastrophe.
Hughes gave his presentation a month ago to the Senior Connection’s “Coffee and Conversation” meeting at Country Manor. Those who heard him found his talk so fascinating, they decided to ask him to do an encore presentation so more people would get the chance to hear him.
