On “National Night Out,” Aug. 7, there were 11 gatherings in Sartell neighborhoods, said Sartell Police Chief Jim Hughes at the Aug. 13 city council meeting.
Hughes said he and two other police officers went to the gatherings to meet the people and to share some safety information. He also told the council he may have to assign more officers to National Night Out get-togethers next year so they can spend more time, rather than brief appearances, with groups of neighbors.
National Night Out is an annual event during which neighbors are encouraged to get together in an effort to know one another, with the goal of meeting with law enforcement and developing strategies to promote safer neighborhoods.
