Starting this month and continuing throughout the next several years, all the water meters in St. Joseph will be replaced at no cost to residents.
Notifications will be mailed to residents with further details and instructions for how to schedule appointments. Information will also be posted periodically on the city’s website: www.cityofstjoseph.com.
Each water-meter replacement will take from 15 to 25 minutes.
Most water meters in the city were installed in 2008 and are now rapidly reaching the end of their lifespans. The new water meters, unlike the old ones, are state-of-the-art high tech and will allow residents to monitor their water usage via smart-phone apps or via computer. That will help residents conserve on water and thus on their water bills.
The new meters, to be installed by the city’s contracted firm of Midwest Testing, will also help the city achieve new water efficiencies.
